Authors
Wizard Books welcomes submissions from childrens authors on all
sorts of subjects. However, while we will take the time to consider proposals
for any age group, please understand that our current emphasis is on 9-years
plus. To submit a proposal, send us a cover letter together with a detailed
proposal, synopsis, table of contents, sample of your writing and CV (listing
any relevant previous publications) or biog. Please ensure you include
all relevant contact details:
- name
- postal address
- e-mail
- daytime phone number or mobile
Proposal guidelines
As a rule, the proposal (not inc. cover letter, synopsis, contents or
extract) should be no longer than four A4 sheets. To help you put together
a comprehensive proposal, we've compiled a list of questions that you
might like to consider. It isn't essential to include answers to all the
questions below, though we appreciate all further information that we
receive.
General
- In two or three sentences, what is my book about?
- Where does it 'fit' in the Wizard Books list fiction, non-fiction,
poetry, picture book?
- What makes this book special, original, important, marketable?
- Why should I write this book for Wizard what are my selling
points as an author?
- Why is a new book needed and why do you wish to write it?
- What will readers gain from it?
- What is the estimated length of the book (word count)?
Market
- What age group is the book aimed at?
- Who in particular will be interested in purchasing the book? (i.e.
what is the target audience)
- Could your book be sold outside the UK? Would it work in other countries?
Competition
- Is your book in direct competition with any existing titles?
- Do you know of any similar books that are forthcoming?
- What distinguishes your book from the competition?
Additional - Non-fiction only
- How will you approach the subject and present the topics?
- What themes and concepts will be developed?
- What will be included and what will be left out (and why)?
- Does your book tie in with any school programmes, learning stages
or syllabuses?
